The Metis Business Centre is a one-stop resource centre for Metis individuals interested in establishing a new business or developing an existing business. This Centre offers a large variety of services to assist clients in their entrepreneurial endeavors.

The role of the Business Centre is to foster successful business enterprises owned and operated by Metis entrepreneurs.

The mission of the Metis Business Centre is to work with Metis in the Central and Coastal regions of Labrador towards greater participation in Small and Medium Business Enterprises as well as to facilitate partnerships with existing agencies and business's to ensure Metis benefit from advancement in all sectors of development in Labrador.

Management Workshops June 23,24,25 offered by MBC in partnership with CESO
Are you interested in gaining or enhancing your management skills!!!

The Metis Business Centre in partnership with CESO will be delivering three workshops open to all aboriginals. Topics of the three workshops are Project Management, Credit Management and Management Skills. Dates are tentatively set for the workshops are June 23, 24, 25. Dates subject to change based on interest. For the workshops to go ahead we need to confirm 10 participants. Lunch and snacks provided. Each workshop will be given on seperate days and will run approx 3 to 4hrs. Don't miss out, register today, workshops that could cost hundreds of dollars to participate in are being offered to you for FREE.

Topics covered in each workshop:

Project Management - Overview of project management, purpose of the project, planning the project, project approval process, project control and evaluation, project closure.

Management Skills – Management training, new manager, management skills, management styles, manager or leader, leadership planning, team building, hiring the right people, firing an employee, performance management, improving communication, decision making, managing stress.

Credit Management - Credit, credit scores, personal credit, credit industry, applying for credit, smart credit use, credit counselling, bad debt options, rebuilding credit, managing personal finances, investments.

Metis Women will represent Labrador at The Atlantic Canada Aboriginal Women in Business – Balance 2010 conference
Two clients of the Metis Business Centre will be attending The Atlantic Canada Aboriginal Women in Business – Balance 2010 conference. Doris Patey from Goose Bay, owner/operator of Doris's Design and Engraving and Lisa Bolger a young lady from Labrador City, who is interested in starting her own business will be representing Metis people and Labrador at the conference. 100 aboriginal women from Atlantic Canada who own a business, would like to start a business or expand a business were selected to attend. All costs covered by the Membertou Entrepreneur Centre partners and sponsors. The three day conference is rooted in the theme of balance and the concept of "sound body...sound mind" offering an opportunity to simulate business presentations, hear from Bill Rancic, Winner of TV Apprentice" and learn from industry and finance experts. As well as participate in apprentice challenge, hands-on challenges, fashion show, bootcamp and trade show! We are proud of you Doris and Lisa!
